Volunteers:
Big Lick is completely run by volunteers. We are always in need of help. If this is something you would be interested in, please contact us! If you can help one time a year or 1 time a week, we are greatly appreciative! Here are some of the things our Volunteers participate in…
1. Become a foster family
2. Distribute literature. Market our Greyt friends!
3. March in a parade with us
4. Walk in a charity walk with us
5. Help at an outreach booth
6. Many of our booth volunteers have more than one greyhound and we always need someone to hold a leash while an owner takes another dog for a walk. We also can get swamped with people asking questions, once you know the answers, your voice would be helpful.
7. Help raise funds* Buy an item for sale and/or convince others to make a purchase.
8. Join the Greyhound Underground Railroad. This group transports animals from the track to an area where someone wants to adopt them. Volunteers drive animals or provide temporary logging for drivers and their precious cargo, relocating greyhounds.
9. Design/Maintain a website for Big Lick Greyhounds
10. Anything that you can think of that you would like to do to help!
Gift Cards:
From PetSmart, Natures Emporium, Pet City, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. Anywhere that good quality dog food is sold. We use these to feed our many foster Greys, purchase bedding and crates, etc. Gift cards also make great raffle items (see below).
General Cleaning Items:
Laundry Detergent, Trash Bags, Mr. Clean, Baking Soda, White Vinegar, Dish Detergent, 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, Natures Miracle, cleaning towels/cloths.
Raffle Items
Big Lick Greyhounds will start holding online raffles and auctions to raise much needed funds. Items can be dog/Greyhound related, but it is not mandatory. Please scout your house for items you can part with to help us help more hounds. Anything that you could imagine being found on Ebay would be greyt! Regifting is fine too! If you get a gift that you don’t need or like, donate to Big Lick! We can give you a receipt that you can use come tax time (talk to your accountant about tax deductions).
Blankets or Comforters
Used by our foster families to make crates (and floors) more comfortable until the foster Grey’s find their own homes. Remember that nothing is too ragged for these couch potatoes! They just want to be loved and have a nice warm bed!
Monetary Donations
The adoption fee we collect doesn’t cover the expense of rescuing a Greyhound: transportation, medical exam, shots, spay/neuter, dental work, food, etc., etc. Your donation helps us keep our adoption fee affordable.
