Big Lick Greyhounds, Inc.

Straight from the tracks into our hearts!

Big Lick Greyhounds is an all volunteer, non-profit group committed to finding forever homes for the Greyhounds. Our group is solely funded by adoptions and donations. Our dogs live in our home or with other foster parents until their forever homes are found!

Greyhounds are, for the most part, very social dogs that can usually learn to get along with other pets. In addition, housebreaking Greys can be fairly easy, as they are generally clean animals who already know how to keep their areas clean- they just have to refocus that towards the entire house instead of just their kennels!

All Big Lick Greyhounds go their new homes with updated shots, already neutered or spayed, and already learning how to be the loving, faithful companions that this breed is known for!

Thanks so much for looking at our site. If you have any questions after visiting , please feel free to contact us! If you want to help this breed, but are not at a time in your life where you can, please feel free to help in other ways! We are always looking for volunteers, donations, and sponsors.

Greg and Jami Weidmann
Big Lick Greyhounds
All greyhounds we take in are evaluated through our foster care program.  Foster care provides a temporary home for the greyhound during its transition from track to home. During this foster time, our Greyhounds learn how to start to become retired! They learn about stairs, leashes, potty training, playing, and being a loyal friend! To be certain that our dogs learn as much as possible before entering your home, we make sure to place limited numbers of foster Greyhounds in an individual home. Our philosophy is to hope that when our Greys go to their forever homes, they are aware of certain household items. This prevents the Greyhounds from being hurt by not knowing. However, there will always be instances where the Greyhounds will be unfamiliar with things. Different surroundings always bring on different challenges. Just because a dog is potty trained in a foster home doesn't mean he won't have to be retrained in their new home. We just hope to shorten this process. Once again, just like humans in different surroundings, dogs will behave differently in different surroundings.

In addition to placing our Greyhounds into loving, adoptive homes, we also want to educate the public about this wonderful breed. Most people think that Greyhounds are hyper dogs, and this is far from the case....that is why Greyhounds are sometimes known as Couch Potatoes or Big Cats!

The success of our organization depends solely on the efforts of volunteers, foster parents, and donations from the community. Since we are non-profit, everything we get in goes straight back out into the breed. Our officers and volunteers donate their spare time and money to rescue dogs. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!! Greg and Jami both have full time jobs to support their family...all money taken into Big Lick goes right back to the Greyhounds!

Volunteering is a way you can help. Big Lick always needs volunteers to help with
fundraisers and special events throughout the year. Any ideas and suggestions are always welcome too! In addition to helping find donations and fundraisers, we also need help with dogs at public appearances and other functions.
